Final Day - Student Presentations and Celebration

Student Presentations

Workshop students and instructors were divided into teams on the first day of the workshop. Each team worked on a presentation that involved current cosmology topics and presented them to the group on the final day.

Some videos are in post production

Team Arecibo - Arecibo Telescope
The Arecibo Telescope in Puerto Rico was discussed in this student presentation. Arecibo carries out three major areas of research: radio astronomy, aeronomy, and radar astronomy observations of solar system objects.

Team Spitzer - The Spitzer Telescope
The Spitzer Space Telescope was launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida in August 2003. During its mission, Spitzer will obtain images and spectra by detecting the infrared energy, or heat, radiated by objects in space between wavelengths of 3 and 180 microns. Most of this infrared radiation is blocked by the Earth's atmosphere and cannot be observed from the ground.

Team Einstein - General Relativity
General relativity is the geometric theory of gravitation published by Albert Einstein in 1915. It is the current description of gravitation in modern physics. It unifies special relativity and Newton's law of universal gravitation, and describes gravity as a geometric property of space and time, or spacetime.
