Dr. Smoot joined distinguished panelists at the May 2009 Nobel Forum in Seoul, South Korea to discuss the role of science, technology, and education. The forum addresed effective methods to promote academic performance and develop competitive Korean universities in the international academic environment. The panel included members from higher education, corporations, and World Class University related sectors. Dr. Smoot was named Director of the Institute for the Early Universe in 2008 and is developing a variety of research and education programs with IEU partners. "Technology is impacting and will impact education substantially both by changing knowledge and by its employment. Until now, modern technology has been an adjunct to traditional education. That is starting to change. It is likely that higher education can adapt to modern technology in education more readily than the K-12 education system."
