The spherical earth, the orbit of the Earth around the Sun, and the local solar system's place in the Milky Way galaxy are universally accepted facts that influence our world views. The origin of the universe as described by a minimum straightforward standard model of cosmology (the big bang model) is on solid scientific ground. The foundations of this model contribute to the continuing evolution of human understanding of our place in the cosmos. Goals The dual goals of the Center for Cosmological Physics are (1) to work with partner research programs to develop and extend the standard model of cosmology and (2) to support science and engineering Strategy The Berkeley Center for Cosmological Physics and the Berkeley Lab Academy will support cosmology research and form partnerships with science and technology learning centers around the world. The centers will support education based on scientific evidence for the standard model of cosmology.
